In a city that seems to be blanketed with Pick 'n Save supermarkets, the opening of a smaller supermarket is probably not a big deal to most people.
But, for those living nearby who don't own cars, Friday's grand opening of Monterrey Market, 3014 S. 13th St., is welcome news, says Neil White, executive director of the Lincoln Village Business Association.
The new store includes fresh produce and a meat counter. It's in an 8,900-square-foot building that once housed a hardware store before new owner Robert Montemayor remodeled it.
Along with owning the building, Montemayor operates Monte Enterprises LLC, which owns Monterrey Market.
